Partnerships for the Goals

Our commitment to achieving Sustainable Development Goal 17 (SDG 17): Partnerships for the Goals, is deeply embedded in our collaborative approach to agricultural research and development.

Our Extensive Network of Partners: ICRISAT's partnerships extend across a wide spectrum of institutions and organizations.

We collaborate with academic institutions, CGIAR centers, foundations, governments and their departments at the national, state, and local levels, international NGOs, civil society organizations, national agricultural research systems, private industries, seed companies, women's groups, and farmer organizations. This network of partners empowers us to draw from a wealth of expertise, experiences, and resources to make a significant impact on agricultural development.

Strong Collaboration with National Agricultural Research Systems (NARS): A key aspect of ICRISAT's partnership strategy is our strong network with National Agricultural Research Systems in focus countries such as India, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Mali, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Niger, and Nigeria. Through these collaborations, we leverage collective expertise and resources to address the specific agricultural challenges faced by smallholder farmers more effectively.

Areas of Collaboration with Research Institutes: ICRISAT collaborates with agricultural research institutes in various ways:

Research Partnerships: We engage in knowledge and data sharing to explore innovative agricultural techniques, develop improved crop varieties, and implement sustainable farming practices.

Capacity Building: ICRISAT provides training and capacity-building programs to researchers, agronomists, and extension workers from partner institutions, enhancing their skills and knowledge.

Germplasm Exchange: Our vast gene bank holds diverse genetic resources of focus crops. Through collaborative efforts, the exchange of germplasm helps in developing improved crop varieties adapted to local conditions.

Technology Transfer: We work closely with research institutes to transfer research outcomes and technologies developed by the institute to the farmers' fields, facilitating their adoption.

Policy Engagement: In collaboration with research institutes, ICRISAT engages with policymakers and government agencies to advocate for evidence-based policy recommendations that foster agricultural development and sustainability.

Monitoring and Evaluation: We collaborate with NARS to jointly monitor and evaluate the impact of interventions, ensuring continuous improvement in our efforts.
