Dr Folorunso Mathew Akinseye is an award-winning scientist with over a decade of working experience in teaching and agricultural research. Dr Folorunso's expertise is particularly focused on employing decision-support tools to validate and test climate-smart agricultural practices, fostering climate adaptation among smallholder farmers and developmental partners across West Africa.
Dr Folorunso harnesses cropping system modeling (CSM) to explore varied management strategies for both cereal and legume crops in the face of climate change. Dr Folorunso's skill set extends to proficiently organizing capacity-building initiatives, conducting extensive research, and effectively executing international donor-funded projects in collaboration with NGOs and NARES (National Agricultural Research and Extension Systems). These accomplishments have been communicated through newsletters and published journal articles.
Dr Folorunso, a Nigerian national, completed his academic journey with a Ph.D. in Meteorology and Climate Science in 2015. Dr Folorunso holds a Master's degree and a Bachelor of Technology degree in Meteorology from the Federal University of Technology Akure (FUTA), Nigeria, obtained in 2010 and 2005, respectively. Dr Folorunso acquired a Ph.D. scholarship supported by the German Federal Ministry of Science and Education (BMBF) through the West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use (WASCAL) Graduate Research Program on the West African Climate System between 2012 and 2015. Dr Folorunso is a member of professional organizations such as the Nigeria Meteorological Society (NMets), the Society of Agrometeorology in India, and the Agricultural Society of Nigeria (ASN).
Dr Folorunso has played significant roles in projects including Accelerating the Impact of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA), World Bank-funded initiatives, G-STIC StratAdapt-Mali supported by the Flemish Government of Belgium, and several others. Dr Folorunso's engagement spans projects such as the Sorghum Outreach Program under the Agricultural Transformation Agenda Support Program-Phase 1 (ATASP-1) financed by the African Development Bank (AFDB), Africa RISING Phase-2 in Mali, Nurturing Africa Digital Revolution for Agriculture (NADiRA), and Transforming Irrigation Management in Nigeria (TRIMING), funded by the World Bank through the Federal Ministry of Water Resources in Nigeria.
