Dr Sunita Choudhary is an agricultural research scientist working in the Crop Physiology and Modeling Cluster of the Global Research Program for Accelerated Crop Improvement at ICRISAT, Hyderabad. Dr Sunita expertise lies in crop physiology, with a dedicated focus on adapting crops to abiotic stress conditions. Dr Sunita work focuses on the translation of insights gained from high-throughput phenotyping to enhance drought, salinity, and heat tolerance in crops. Dr Sunita work involves extensive engagement with various nutritional and precision phenotyping sensors. Dr Sunita is a certified drone pilot authorized by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). Over the past three years, she has been at the forefront of advancing UAV applications for sustainable agriculture.
Dr Sunita's academic journey includes graduation from Indira Gandhi Agriculture University, Raipur, and a post-graduation in Plant Breeding and Genetics from Choudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agriculture University, Hisar, Haryana. Dr Sunita completed her Ph.D. at ICRISAT and pursued her Postdoctoral research at North Carolina State University (NCSU) in Raleigh, USA.
During her postdoctoral tenure, Dr Sunita played a pivotal role in the collaborative release of 17 drought-tolerant maize hybrids known as "Aquamax," achieved through an industrial partnership. This accomplishment reflects Dr Sunita's commitment to bridging the gap between research and practical agricultural solutions.
