Dr Ijantiku Ignatius Angarawai is a Senior Scientist specializing in Genetics and Crop Breeding within the research program on Accelerated Crop Improvement (ACI) at ICRISAT, based in Kano, Nigeria. He holds a PhD from Modibo Adamawa University (Federal University of Technology) in Yola, Nigeria. Driven by a passion for technology's impact, he focuses on the advantages of dryland cereals/legumes and is actively involved in various aspects of crop improvement, including product design, development, release, deployment, seed systems, and nutrition-sensitive recipe development for biofortified and climate-resilient varieties. This commitment aims to facilitate adaptation to challenging environments, ultimately reducing malnutrition and enhancing the livelihoods of resource-limited smallholder farmers.
Utilizing a community-based Farmer Field School approach, Dr Angarawai collaborates with diverse value chain players to increase on-farm production and improve market integration. His efforts extend beyond agriculture, fostering community integration to promote gender equity, resulting in enhanced conflict resolution, environmental sustainability, and pathways out of poverty for small-scale farmers.
