Professor Hamidou Falalou is a Senior Scientist and full Professor specializing in Plant Ecophysiology, with a focus on managing Plant Genetic Resources. Based at ICRISAT Niger, he is an expert in studying crop responses to abiotic stresses, particularly drought, heat, and nutrient deficiency. His research aims to comprehend the mechanisms of adaptation and identify agrophysiological traits that can be utilized in breeding programs to enhance crop yields.
Additionally, Professor Falalou serves as the manager of the ICRISAT Africa genebank, where he adeptly oversees various ex situ conservation activities. These activities include germplasm acquisition, characterization, regeneration, distribution, and documentation. Proficient in adhering to international legislations governing germplasm access and benefit-sharing, he facilitates the distribution of seed samples requested by users. Furthermore, he provides training to NARS (National Agricultural Research Systems) partners on diverse aspects of genebank management.
Hamidou Falalou holds a PhD in Plant Ecophysiology and previously worked as a lecturer at the University Abdou Moumouni before joining ICRISAT.
